I have a friends car, an 02 Chrysler Sebring and it's having a problem with slipping but only in first and in reverse. I am wondering if anyone has an idea on the cause.

This is a very common problem affecting sebrings, caravans, neons and some others that year. Transmissions with a certain build date had this problem...sometimes it would trigger an engine light but not all the time. The Chrysler bulletin recommends replacing the low/reverse accumulator cover and o-ring in the transmission to fix the problem, not the easiest task.
